When you reach the last number, the score is collected anonymously. No name is sent.

How to use the Schulte table

  1. Choose a grid size: 3×3, 4×4 or 5×5. 5×5 is the classic size.
  2. Press “Start”. The numbers appear and the timer starts at the same moment.
  3. Tap the numbers in order from 1. Tapping a wrong number counts as a miss. Tapping the last number finishes the grid.

The Schulte table is named after the German psychiatrist Walter Schulte. Finding numbers in order trains quick eye movements and is used for focus, peripheral vision and speed-reading practice. This page uses the classic format, where found numbers are not marked.

Frequently asked questions

What is an average time?

For a 5×5 grid, around 30–40 seconds is a common figure for adults trying it for the first time. This page treats 28 to under 38 seconds on 5×5 as “typical”. With practice many people reach the 20s.

Why are found numbers not marked?

In the classic Schulte table you search the whole grid each time without marks. This tests focus and eye movement rather than memory.

Do misses affect my time?

Misses add no time, but they are shown in your result. Only the time is used for score statistics.

Does daily practice help?

Times often drop with regular practice, though how much it helps varies from person to person. Take a break if your eyes get tired.

Is my result sent anywhere?

When you reach the last number, the score calculated from your time, the time itself, the grid size, your device type (computer, phone or tablet) and the page language are sent. No name or email is collected, and IP addresses are not stored with scores. Unfinished grids are not sent. Your personal best is stored only in this browser.
